2010 Dalnavert Kennels Year In Review

SEASON'S GREETINGS TO ALL OF OUR FRIENDS!

Whew....this has been a whirlwind year for us at Home and Dalnavert Kennels.

On January 1st, 2010 we hosted Carolyne and Tyler's engagement party. The next 8 months were filled with the ups and downs of wedding plans .... a cancelled wedding cake order 2 months before the event, waiting for bridesmaid dress orders to come in from the USA (they looked lovely!), dress fittings for Carolyne (she looked gorgeous!), the groom and his groomsmen (very handsome!), a menu tasting at Bergmann's on Lombard (the meal and venue were outstanding!), novelties, flowers (fresh roses and cala lilies), a photographer and a Justice of the Peace (Carolyne's former high school teacher, Linda Gervais, did the honours) were some of the many things that we had to put into place before the wedding on August 28th, 2010. The event was a huge success which made all of our efforts worthwhile. Thank you for all of your support.

Meanwhile, Bernice had skating competitions to judge in Jan/Feb (brrrr..arenas are cold) and lots of school work to keep up with due to the new assessment plans we decided to implement..after 34 years the pendulum is bound to swing the other way!

On Feb.28th/10, we celebrated Brehdyn's, our grandson, 1st birthday.

Am/Can. CH. Luvit's A Rolex Daytona at Dalnavert "Tony" began his Canadian show career in Feb. with 2 group placements. By April, he was #8 in Canada and remained in that placement for the remainder of the year. Not bad for being out of the country for the rest of 2010. He left for the States in May, where he was shown by Rick Day to his American championship. While in Canada, Tony sired his first litter on April 25th/10; in the USA he sired 1 litter at Risgae Kennels and 1 litter at Musicbox Kennels. We are expecting another litter from him in spring 2011.

Am/Can. CH. Luvit's A Rolex Yacht-Master at Dalnavert "Lex" began his Canadian championship in April, also left for the States in May to complete his American championship and then returned to reside with Marilyn and Alan Torrance in Ottawa where he completed his championship taking a Group 2 at the Ottawa Kennel Club show. Lex had to complete his championship by defeating specials since there were very few, if any, class dogs competing. He managed to defeat the current #1 Bichon in Canada three times. Not bad for the new kid on the block! He is looking forward to siring his first litter in January 2011 in the Toronto area.

Although Hugs, Am/Can. CH. Risgae's Hershey's Kisses of Dalnavert-Luvit held the #1 spot in Bichons for most of the year, we will have to settle for the # 2 spot, as we just lost the position and do not have Hugs entered in any more shows. Hugs sired 1 litter in Canada and 1 litter in the States this year. Watch for his daughters "Gracie" and "Joy" in the ring in 2011.

We welcome back from Florida, "Belle?", Am/Can CH. Luvit Dalnavert Southern Belle of Risgae and her daughter DeeDee Luvit's Dalnavert Double Destiny.

Some of our favourites passed over Rainbow Bridge this year. Our sympathy goes out to: Margaret Perkins "Ariel", the Moorhouse family "Zoe", Blair and Linda Vogen "Tyler", Lou-Anne Buhr "Mia", Laurie Campbell "Luther", Laura Holzhauer "Cherie" and Carolyne and Tyler on their German Shepherd "Cruiser".

We welcome all of our new family members who have been taken over by their little person in a fur coat! The Fleming family who are now owned by "Bonnie", the O'Leary family for giving "Tommy" such a wonderful home, and all of the new puppy owners. Remember to come and join the fun at the Bichon Bash in June 2011!

Our son Grant will be home soon for Christmas! June 2011 is his graduation. He will be awarded his Bachelor of Information Technology from Carleton U. (a 4 year degree) and a Diploma from Algonquin College that was completed at the same time. We are looking forward to going to Ottawa. Girlfriend, Allie graduated last year with a degree in History (4 years) Carleton U. and is completing her teaching certification at Ottawa U. in June 2011.

My Mom is doing well. She is celebrating her 85th birthday on Dec. 23rd/10.
You are all welcome to follow up on what is happening to us at home and the kennel by checking out our website dalnavertkennels.ca. I try to keep it up to date .....if you have not seen it yet , have a read and view the pictures. It was designed by Grant!
