    • The past month has been excessively busy at home and in the Kennel. As both Lex and Tony completed their American championships by the end of July , plans had to be made to bring them home. Temperatures in the mid-west, both Canada and the USA, had been hot and humid. Shipping by plane was out of the question ! Here at home ,we had been busy preparing for our daughter’s wedding ( August 28th/10 )....and I did not have a dress yet ! A holiday was definitely in order !
We left on August 2nd and drove to friend’s home in Bristol, Wisconsin ( just out side of Milwaukee). Jill Sanfilippo and her 4 lovely Bichons welcomed us into their home. We got to meet ” Gracie” Jill’s new puppy out of Hugs and Lana. What a cutie! Jill drove us to the airport on the evening…

Linda’s profession is that of a groomer, so she was prepared for the pace and the demand of the next two days. For Carla this was time for learning as she became a partnering assistant. • October 12th Happy Thanksgiving 2009!

    • Posted by Bernice Lucas on Mon, 12 Oct 2009
    • Thanksgiving came in with a snowstorm this year!  Although the weather stayed cold and snowy all weekend, we shared a lovely turkey dinner with family and friends. Every October The Fort Garry Kennel Club holds their fall dog show. This year was their 90th anniversary.

Congratulations go out to Carolyne Lucas, Tyler Cybulsky and Sigrid Appelt on “Cruiser’s” 2 point win this weekend winning Winner’s Male under judge Donna Cole!

LINDAU’S CRUISE CONTROL has been expertly trained, conditioned and shown by his owner- handler Carolyne Lucas. Cruiser has 4 points towards his championship. Up until now, Carolyne has always specialized in small dogs. Her ability to handle dogs became very evident as she piloted Cruiser on a 6 foot loose lead around the ring, presenting to the judge a dog with drive, extension and a solid top line. Cruiser’s lovely profile was presented both by hand stack and free bait. …

    • Our International Connections

    • Posted by Bernice Lucas on Wed, 23 Sep 2009
    • A number of years ago we sold a puppy to Teppo Numminen, a former Winnipeg Jets hockey player. This Bichon Frise resides in Finland when he is not flying all over the world attending hockey games. He has always been a much loved pet. This was our only International connection...or so I thought!

This week I did a little research into European Bichon Frise kennels, and I came across a number of them . As I read through their websites, to my surprise, I came across 2 kennels that had their foundation stock based on our bloodlines CH. DALNAVERT’S FROSTED COCONUT ICE.  One kennel is in Germany and the other in Hungary. I have made contact with the kennel in Hungary today and hope to hear from Germany. I am interested in learning how influential “Frosty’s” pedigree became in Europe. Both of these kennels report successful show dogs from…

    • Our trip was wonderful ! We were gone for 3 weeks returning September 4th. We travelled over 8,000 km, through 15 States and 3 provinces. All 3 purposes of the trip were fulfilled.

The first leg of the journey , Winnipeg to Atlanta Georgia was for the purpose of taking Hugs and Belle back to Rick and Gary at Risgae Kennels in preparation of their American championship. On the way, we stayed with Jill Sanfilippo in Bristol, Wisconsin. Jill is the owner of 3 very successful obedience and agility Bichons. Our travels then took us through a number of states with Kentucky being my favourite. Yes , we had ourselves a good helping of Col. Saunders Kentucky fried chicken! Corbiel Kentucky was where it all started. Upon arrival at Rick and Gary’s, we met up with Linda Ross “Luvit” kennels and husband Pat. This gave us a chance for…

First time in the ring at 6 months of age was our “Tony”, Luvit’s A Rolex Daytona At Dalnavert. He showed very well winning Reserve male. Hugs won Best of Breed on Sat. August 8th, 2009. We wished Belle a Happy Birthday as she turned a year old ! The weekend ended with the Bichon Booster under Dr. Michael Woods. Hugs won Best of Breed , Tony won Best Puppy…
